Watching the winter and summer Olympics always make me think about how much work these athletes go through in preparation for their chosen sports. Im thinking that they must wake up before the rooster crows, train hard, and pay attention to every detail to improve their skills and their time. If I were an athlete, I would probably do the same thing for the honor of representing my country. Not to mention that I would also want the title of being Gold Medal Winner. These thoughts led me straight to thinking how we, as regular people, can apply this to our lives specifically, to our health and fitness. Given these, I thought about 3 attributes that I think every successful athlete has which are the attributes we must possess in order to find the inner athlete in us.Attribute #1: Striving for ExcellenceTheres no doubt that athletes strive for excellence. They have to because they compete with other top athletes across the globe. Of course, they cant strive for excellence if they dont set goals. So, these two go hand in hand. When we think about striving for excellence and setting goals to our everyday lives, first we have to decide which area of our lives we want to apply them to. Since, my specialty is in fitness, lets just say that you wanted to lose weight. First, you would want to set a goal with a deadline. So, if youre goal is to lose 10 lbs then, you should also include when you want to achieve that goal. Lets say, lose 10 lbs in 5 weeks. This translates to a 2-lb a week weight loss so, if you want to strive for excellence, you would really train hard and eat healthily during those 5 weeks. You would not stop, not even cheat if you still havent reached your weekly goal.Attribute #2: Never Giving UpAthletes who have gone on to compete at the Olympic events never give up. If they did, they wont even make it to the Olympics. Even the athletes who didnt win a medal still didnt give up. This is the difference between athletes and regular people. When we start to set goals and things start to become difficult, most of us simply forget why we got started in trying to achieve them halfway (sometimes sooner) through the process. Imagine if all athletes did this? The Olympics will not take place if this was the case.Whenever we set out to achieve goals, there will always be hurdles. It can be not enough time, too many responsibilities, etc. Whatever it is, we have to anticipate these hurdles, plan ahead or plan around them. Im sure that athletes also have other responsibilities besides training to be the best at their own sports. If they can a way to achieve their goals, then we dont have any reason not to achieve ours.Attribute #3: Fulfilling Our PotentialAcquiring the gold medal has to be the ultimate potential that athletes strive for. I can just imagine the feeling of having that medal wrapped around my neck. It must be the ultimate feeling in the world for them. The way I apply this in my life is I try to imagine something equivalent to that feeling. The vision can be as simple as wearing a sexy two-piece suit on the beach and feeling confident that I look pretty hot in it. This may sound shallow but Im being honest. Im sure theres not one person in this world who wouldnt mind looking great in a bikini. In terms of fitness, I love being able to perform advanced exercises. Exercises that a lot of people seem to struggle with and yet, with enough time, practice, and consistency, Ive managed to increase my athleticism. Of course, if you were to compare me to an Olympic athlete, I would probably suck but I have come a long way, nonetheless. So, the homework you would need to do is this: imagine the feeling once you reached your ultimate potential or ultimate goal. Imagine how you would feel then and hold on to that feeling no matter what happens. Now you have the top 3 things you can learn from Olympic athletes that you can immediately put to good use. All these attributes are applicable to any area in our life, not just weight loss. Take action and apply them and watch the results happen.
