The Brazilian bikini conjures up a myriad of associations, most of them very visual, colorful images. Images of beauty, of suntanned bodies shaking to samba beats on exotic, far-away tropical beaches.Add some bright colorful soccer players and some feather decorated head dress and this likely completes the typical picture most foreigners have of Brazil itself.One is left contemplating the age old chicken or egg dilemma as to which came first. Is the Brazilian bikini the cause or the consequence of the beauty and sexiness that exudes from Brazil, or more specifically from Brazilian women?My authority in answering this question derives from several sources. As co-owner of a swimwear label specializing in Brazilian bikinis, I may have some experience on the subject of Brazilian bikinis, but I probably dont get too many credibility points for objectivity. In another role however, as a Surf Life Saver, I have spent the last 12 years patrolling Australian beaches and carefully observing (for their own swimming safety I promise) women of all shapes and sizes wearing all manner of swimwear. It is in this capacity that I feel I have been exposed to the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to beach fashion. And finally, as the partner of a Brazilian woman I have a unique outsiders view into Brazilian culture.Only last week while on life saving patrol I found myself discussing this question of what makes a woman in a Brazilian bikini so eye catching. I walked in mid way though a conversation between two other female life savers as they were exchanging their own points of view on Brazilian bikinis and the women that wear them. When I entered, the conversation had progressed to sharing a second hand story of someone they knew who had been to Brazil and described it as a land of cosmetic surgery, where it was accepted, even commonplace, for girls in their mid teens to undergo all manner of beauty enhancing procedures.The reality I have witnessed in Brazil is quite the opposite, a poor country with people making the most out of lifes simple pleasures, rather than a wealthy indulgent society obsessed with beauty.When I shared this opinion with my two fellow lifesavers, they pointed down the beach to two girls sunning themselves in Brazilian bikinis, evidently the original stimulus for their conversation. They had correctly identified the ladies as Brazilian, they guessed this to be the case from the bikinis they were wearing, I knew this to be true as one was my partner and the other, her friend visiting from Brazil. They commented that only Brazilians could wear swimwear like they wore.My two life saving colleagues were athletes that compete in the highest level of surf life saving, with sporty, healthy bodies. One of them I had even considered approaching to do some bikini modelling for me. I proceeded to quiz them as to why they would not consider such swimwear for themselves.The answer was an all too familiar one that I have come to expect from Australian girls in their 20s. Despite how they look, their answer is always the same, If I looked like that I would probably wear one too.My reply to this probably took them by surprise. Like which one?, I asked pointing to the two completely opposite body shapes; one was tall and slim and buxom, the other was short and chubby with a disproportionately large bottom and hips for her height. Yet both of them looked beautiful and could not go unnoticed lying their together on the beach.They couldnt argue the point about not having the right body to look stunning in a Brazilian bikini. Being women, and naturally needing to have the last word, they replied with the excuse No, its not the body we need, its the suntan on the bits dont usually see the light of day.That leads into an entirely new debate over what comes first, the all over tan or the minimal coverage swimwear.But back to the original question, is the Brazilian bikini the cause or consequence of a nation of exceptionally attractive people with a reputation for beauty and sexiness? I believe it is a little of both, it is women believing in themselves and their own beauty, whatever shape that might be, and having the confidence to wear a bikini that shows off, rather than hides, themselves and their beauty.

Journey back over 100 years to the Pacific Northwest! Disneys Wilderness Lodge Resort is reminiscent of the Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park. The resort opened May 28, 1994 and remains one of Disneys most popular (and my favorite) resorts! The Pacific Northwest theme features both natural and Native American elements, and even includes a geyser that erupts each hour from 7:00 am-10:00 pm. The 8-story log-structured Wilderness Lodge is located near the Magic Kingdom and sits along the shores of Bay Lake. There are 729 rooms, including 37 King rooms, 25 Junior Suites, 4 Honeymoon Suites, 1 Yosemite Suite and 1Yellowstone Suite. Disneys Wilderness Villas, a Disney Vacation Club Resort, is located just steps away from the main building. WLV guests are able to take advantage of all of the wonderful amenities of the main building. Guests can ride boats to the Magic Kingdom, Disneys Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds, and Disneys Contemporary Resort. To get to the other theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney, hop on a bus for a quick ride!As you walk into the majestic lobby of Wilderness Lodge, the very first thing you will see will be the beautiful centerpiece- the 82-foot stone fireplace. Nothing beats walking into this beautiful lobby to see a roaring fire (even in summer) and curling up in one of the many old-time wooden rockers near the fireplace. Guests of both Wilderness Lodge and Wilderness Lodge Villas check in at the main resort desk in the grand lobby. A concierge is also available. Guests on the 7-th floor concierge level can partake in the Old Faithful Club, where they can experience complimentary continental breakfasts as well as cheese and wine tastings.The regular rooms at Wilderness Lodge are 340 square feet. Most have 2 queen-sized beds, but there are some rooms with King Beds and some even have bunk beds (along with a queen bed). Views consist of standard views, woods view, lodge view (of the DVC property), and courtyard views. The rooms contain a writing table and 3 chairs, an armoire with a TV, and a small-key operated safe to keep your valuables secure. In the bathroom, you will find a hair dryer and two sinks with a mirror in a separate vanity area. For those people who cant tear themselves away from their computer, they will find high-speed Internet access. Upon request, you can get bed boards, bed rails and cribs (the Pak-n-Play type). The rooms are a bit small, but they are all well appointed, and all rooms have a small balcony or patio.Recreation abounds at Wilderness Lodge! Kids and parents alike will love the Silver Creek Springs Pool. Youll find daily recreational water activities in the afternoon. Lifeguards are on duty from 9:00 am-10:00 pm, and the pool is open from 7:00 am through midnight. Your little ones will love the rock water slide, and tiny tots will splash away in the kiddie pool! There are also two spas, and the pool is heated to a warm 82 degrees in cooler weather. You will find a sandy beach on the shores of Bay Lake (no swimming) with lounge chairs and a playground. Water lovers can rent watercraft such as water mice, canopy boats or pontoon boats. There are also fishing excursions available for both s and kids. Bike rentals are available and there is a 3/4 mile path that starts at Disneys Teton Boat and Bike Rentals that runs between Disneys Wilderness Lodge and Disneys Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground. There is also an arcade and sand volleyball court. Tours are available at Wilderness Lodge as well- inquire about the Hidden Mickey Hunt List and the guided resort tours. Lucky families will be chosen to be a Flag Family. Inquire about this at check-in and be the daily lucky family that gets to go to the roof of Wilderness Lodge at 7:00 am to raise the flag for the day. What a view!!Wilderness Lodge guests are fortunate enough to have some wonderful dining choices at their disposal! Whispering Canyon is right off of the lobby and is a great place for old-fashioned family fun! Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available. All-you-can-eat skillet breakfasts are served as are a la carte items. Lunch hours are from noon to 3 p.m. one of the best things atWhispering Canyon is the family skillet dinner that is served on a lazy-susan. An a la carte menu that includes sandwiches and salads is also available at lunchtime. Hours for dinner are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. An all-you-can-eat family style skillet dinner featuring barbecued beef, chicken, spare ribs, sausage and smoked turkey is offered. Meats are smoked on the premises. Priority Seating is recommended. And make sure that you ask for ketchup!The signature dining experience at Wilderness Lodge is Artist Point. Food here is prepared in the style of America Northwest and includes items such as cedar plank salmon, grilled buffalo, and berry cobbler. You can dine overlooking the waterfall that leads down to the pool area.The quick-service option at Wilderness Lodge is Roaring Fork, where you will find breakfast items, hamburgers, sandwiches and salads. This is where you will find the refillable resort mugs as well as desserts and self-serve ice cream.For Walt Disney World keepsakes, sundries, snacks and Wilderness Lodge memorabilia, head to Wilderness Lodge Mercantile. This is a great shop, and one of my favorite resort shops. Wilderness Lodge also offers a kids club called The Cubs Den. The Cubs Den is for potty-trained children over age 4. Reservations are required to take advantage of The Cubs Den. In the lobby, you will also find an extremely talented caricaturist as well as a pin cart for all those pin traders out there!Wilderness Lodge is a perfect resort for everyone! There is always something to do, and the lodge itself is absolutely stunning. Last time we were there, we saw ducks, bunnies, deer and baby armadillos. The kids were in awe by the beautiful surroundings! I highly recommend that you book your next trip to Walt Disney World and stay at Wilderness Lodge! 2006 saw employers getting to grips with age discrimination and the new TUPE regime. Here, we look at what is in store for 2007.Work and familiesLast July we looked at the Work and Families Act 2006 when the detailed Regulations were still in draft. We now have the final version of the Regulations. The key changes to the law are as follows.The new rules will apply to employees whose babies are due to be born or placed for adoption on or after 1 April 2007.Extension of maternity leave periodUnder the new Regulations all pregnant employees will be entitled to 52 weeks leave when their babies are born.Notice period for return from maternity leaveEmployees who wish to return to work earlier than the end of their statutory maternity leave period will be required to give their employer 8 weeks notice.Statutory Maternity Pay periodThe statutory maternity pay period will increase to 39 weeks from April 2007 - 6 weeks at 90% of pay and 33 weeks at the flat rate (108.85). The Government has announced that it intends to increase the pay period to one year by the end of this Parliament (2009/10).Keeping in touch daysThe Regulations allow an employee on maternity leave to agree with their employer to work for up to 10 days during their leave without bringing the leave to an end. This is to allow employees to attend training courses or business or skills updating without prejudicing their maternity leave.Reasonable ContactUnder the Regulations, employers are entitled to make reasonable contact with employees during maternity leave.Flexible workingThe law at present provides that parents with 26 weeks service who have children under six (or under 18 if the child has a disability) are entitled to apply to work flexibly. The Act extends this right to carers of s from 6 April 2007. The minimum service requirement (26 weeks) will remain the same.An employee will be entitled to make a request to work flexibly if he or she is caring for or expects to care for an to whom they are married or who is their partner (living together) or civil partner or who is a near relative, or an who lives at the same address as they do. Near relative will mean the employees parents, parents-in-law, child, adopted child, siblings (including in-laws), uncles, aunts, grandparents or step-relatives.There is no current proposal to extend this right to parents of children aged between 6 and 17 who do not have a disability.Smoke-free work placesUnder new legislation, virtually all enclosed and substantially enclosed workplaces must be smoke-free from 1 July 2007 (there are a few very limited exemptions). This will include company cars and other work vehicles. Designated smoking rooms will no longer be allowed.Employers will face fines if they allow employees to smoke at their workplace or if they fail to display adequate no-smoking signs. Failure to display a no-smoking sign will incur a fine of up to 1000 or a fixed penalty notice of 200. Failing to prevent smoking in what should be a smoke-free place will incur a fine of up to 2,500.Information and consultationFrom 1 April 2007 the Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004 will extend the requirement to make available a formal information and consultation procedure to all businesses employing at least 100 employees.New rates of compensationAny employee who is unfairly dismissed on or after 1 February 2007 will be able to claim a maximum compensatory award of 60,600. The rate of statutory redundancy pay will increase to 310 per week (from the current level of 290 per week). We tested the suit and found that it does indeed make a person appear slimmer by readjusting the wobbly bits making them look firmer and less obvious and enhancing the parts of a ladies body that look better when they have a bit more shape. As most of you know, those who have read my bio at least, I am now a resident of Seattle, Washington. Not having been here a year yet, there is still a ton for us to explore and experience. This Memorial Day, Joe, my long suffering husband of 23 years arranged for the three of usErika, our 12 year old, and myself to drive up to Vancouver CA for an over nightyes DRIVE.at THESE GAS PRICES! But heck, it was cheaper then flying the Lear round trip and renting a car for 36 hours and it was only 150 miles one way, unless you get lost then you can add on 50 miles of aimless wandering while trying not to kill each other over who told who to take a right when it should have been a left! (No names please!)So we left the Seattle area taking the northern route toward Vancouver, B.C. Driving on the I5 highway was a beautiful ride on a Sunday. The sun was shining and we were all in a great mood. Waiting the 45 minutes to cross the border into Canada wasnt even that bad with the windows rolled down and a light breeze wafting off the Pacific Ocean from the left and on the right, a lovely little speck of flowering shrubs and green grass where the Peace Arch Provincial Park is located. (No we didnt get out and stroll because we were hoping for a miracle to happen. One that included the lines moving faster through the check points into Canada.dont hold your breath!) We did bring our passports and once it was finally our turn it was all of 55 seconds of where are you going and why and THEN we were through and experiencing THE GREAT NORTH WEST of Canada.where road signs are hard to follow!We finally arrived at the River Rock Casino Resort located in Richmond, Canada just south of Vancouver. Check out the link! This is a all Suite resort and Spa with a small casino. We checked into our beautiful suite over looking a marina.Erika had a very comfortable queen size sofa bed in the living room and we had a heavenly king sized bed in the bed room. Everything was new and fresh. After we were settled in we had lunch at the Dockside Cafe and Joe and Erika hit the beautiful indoor pool with a water slide! (I just lounged on a chair, took pictures and read my bookMY idea of relaxing!) After an hour or two of swimming we were off to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (PG 13). It was fun and Harrison Ford hasnt changed a bit! We had a quick bite to eat and then back to the hotel. I am leaving out 2 things herehow DISSAPPOINTING it was to find out that the US dollar is only worth 95 cents AND how horribly LOST we were trying to find the movie theatre! I swear that when you are on a road that provides signs every 2 miles that states please respect slow moving farm equipment you would think THIS is the WRONG ROAD.and you turn around.and we DIDand then we found out that we actually WERE on the right road and so we had to back track AGAIN.sheeshThis is where the D word is tossed around with abandoned while my child, from the back seat, in a sing song voice, tells her father and I to build a bridge and GET OVER IT! HA (SHE isnt driving!)Back at the hotel, we settle Erika in with some ice cream, the remote control and the cell phone while Joe and I decide to support our neighbors, the Canadians, with some of our hard earned American Moola. This is my way of sayingNO we didnt hit the big one on the slots and dont ask anything about the exchange rates at the Casinos! But it was fun for a while and we tucked ourselves into our heavenly bed by midnight!Memorial Day dawned bright, Im surebut I didnt see a bit of light until 10:30 am. Now THATs a Vacation! We packed up and by 11:30 we were out the door and on our way North through Vancouver to Capilano. I highly recommend a visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge | Explore the Park . It is beautiful! And well worth the price. We had only thought that the Suspension bridge would be the best thing about it but we loved the bridges in the tree tops as well as the cliffhanger walk. This is perfect for all ages and I really dont think you need to worry about any small child falling through the cracksthere arent any! It is perfectly safealthough I saw MANY older people hanging on for dear life! We stayed a couple of hours and may have stayed longer if we didnt need to get back to Seattle.Again, on the drive back, we had to wait at least an hour to cross onto US soil and again, our passports came in handy. But this time there was no breeze as we took a less scenic route back to America and I5. We will be traveling north again but we may take a ferry to Victoria the next time. I always believe in taking full advantage of where you are living and see what is out your very own back doorand with travel starting to cost so much these short trips maybe all we do for a while!
